Conferences

In the High School Division (Mentor/TSS), three conferences are held during the year – providing students with valuable and meaningful learning experiences. These conferences are important for several reasons. Firstly, they are entirely student-run. This means that students gain real-life insight into what is involved in organizing a major event by seeing it through from the early planning stages all the way to realizing their vision. Secondly, students have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding in a personal area of interest. Finally, students develop their philanthropic interests by raising funds for a charity of their choice.

GEC (Gender Equity Conference)

Gender equity is not a woman’s issue. It is a human issue that affects each and every one of us. Regardless of how an individual identifies themselves, they should receive equal treatment. With these principles in mind, Mentor College held its first annual GEC (Gender Equity Conference) in 2015.

In 2020, the event was rebranded as EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Conference). Every year, the conference addresses a wide variety of topics related to equity, diversity and inclusion. The conference also includes the opportunity to ask the speakers questions at the end of their talks.

Health & Wellness Conference

The central aim of the Health & Wellness Conference is to raise awareness of physical and mental health issues affecting teens. Mentor College held its first conference in March 2016.

In 2019, the event was focused on teenage mental health and mindfulness. Speakers included a psychotherapist who guided students through several activities to help them cope and reduce stress in their daily lives. She also also be addressed stress issues associated with the transition from high school to university. The other speaker will discussed wellness and mindfulness from a physical activity point of view.

MCBC (Mentor College Business Conference)

Started in 2011, Mentor College Business Conference (MCBC) is an annual event run by high school business students. The students meet with and learn from leaders in the business world. In past years, MCBC students have heard from special guest speakers including top executives from companies and organizations. All of the proceeds raised from the event are donated to various charities and organizations.

In 2018, the conference welcomed 4 speakers to the panel. Featured speakers were Carol-Anne Schneider (Broker at Realty Executives), Braden Hill (Co-founder of AdmitKit), Samantha Angel (Creative director at Trellis Concepts) and Gogi Grewal (Sr V.P. of Business Services at Staples) to discuss their personal challenges and successes in business.
